“The best thing in Boorloo every year” - AE’25 punter

Do you want to do something at the Audible Edge Festival of Exploratory Music next year? Play, write, talk, make a set design, run an experimental bar, etc.? You can email us a proposal at info@tonelist.com.au.

TL is open to hearing from anyone interested in new & experimental approaches to sound and listening, regardless of discipline or genre. AE usually happens over a weekend, with a preamble of workshops and satellite events in the preceding months. We like to flip the script so it might be different next year, we don’t really know yet. It’s probably May 1 - 3.

AE is curated through a slow, considered process in dialogue with many partners globally. It’s small, and we don’t get paid for the initial planning phase. We can’t guarantee much except that we’ll appreciate the time taken to reach out and if we don’t action your proposal it remains in the back of our minds. We'll respond quickly if we feel your work might need specific funding support; otherwise we can take up to six months to confirm as we wait for our own $ to come thru.

We accept proposals in a form that works for you: emails (loose/formal), requests for sit-down chats, requests to be paired with someone for a new collaboration, etc.

We like things that are tender, slow, silly, local, tiny, careful, contingent or extreme. We like good music. We encourage sending links to your work, and including a bio or other written context if its important to you. We welcome discussing accessibility or cultural safety needs upfront. We don’t mind if you are interested but don’t have an idea yet.

When applying for funding, we budget to pay between $500 - $1000 per performer plus allowances. Sometimes we offer commission fees (roughly $3000). In reality, we work with what we end up with, but you’ll get paid.

Our ability to support inbound travel is limited: if you’re outta town, we need to work together to get you here. We can write letters of support and help with accommodation and per diems, but likely cannot fund your flights. There may be exceptions to this for artists based in south-east Asia or regional Western Australia.
